Welcome to the Bristol County Registry of Deeds, Southern District. Our professional staff is here to assist you with any transaction or information you need – please ask for their assistance. We hope your visit with us will be productive and a positive experience. Mission Statement

The Registry of Deeds is a recording office and research library for land transactions in Bristol County South. Documents recorded are related to the ownership of real estate within Bristol South. Examples of documents include, but are not limited to deeds, mortgages, easements, liens, as well as recorded plans. Each document is given a document number, book & page number and a certificate number for those registered land documents.

Some history…

The Bristol County Registry of Deeds, Southern District was established April 17, 1837 by an act of the Massachusetts Legislature. Originally housed in the County Court House, the present Registry Office was built in 1908. Deeds were copied by hand until 1912 when typewriting was introduced. Since its origin there have been 13 Registers.

Things to remember…

You are asked to silence or mute your cellphones when in the main research hall. Please use the front entrance/foyer or basement level of the Registry for extended conversations.

Your cooperation is requested in keeping discussions to a minimum and at a low level in consideration of the researchers who are working.

Registry hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00am through 4:00pm for recording, building closes at 4:30pm.

We are closed Saturdays and Sundays.

Our Closing Rooms are now for public use.

Documents can be copied for the cost of $1.00 per page. Please note that all copies you make you will be responsible for – so be careful what you “send to the printer”.

You are asked to appropriately maintain any workspace you are using in the Registry and to be mindful that you may not be the only person using the area.

Please remember that these are public records. Appropriating or damaging Registry property or records shall result in prosecution and “notice not to trespass” in the Registry in the future.
